Best Detroit/Michigan Representation in the 2006 Torino Olympics

There was some very good representation of Michigan in the 2006 Torino winter Olympics. There were 10 people who were born in Michigan or who currently reside in Michigan. Those Olympians are: Ben Agosto, Tanith Belbin, Mark Grimmette, Derian Hatcher, Alex Izykowski, Mike Modano, Jean Prahm, Brian Rafalski, Brian Rolston, and Doug Weight. There competitors have done their best to make our nation and state very proud of them. Also to bring a better reputation that we do originally to this area. However, the couple of Olympians that I will be focusing on are Ben Agosto and Tanith Belbin.

Ben and Tanith have earned the United States a silver medal in the Ice Dancing Competition. A medal was not earned in the competition in the United States for more than 30 years. To say at the very least their performance was spectacular. The original dance had moved them up from 5th place to 2nd place, in a nice position to attempt to win the gold medal. But the Russian team was really strong with no mistakes and very technical. Ben and Tanith's free dance did have a mistake where they fell but still overcame the struggle to win the silver medal. They have made the nation and the state very proud in representing us in the Olympics.
